PORTUGUESE FOR FOREIGNERS COURSE


Objectives and Program


Our staff of teachers will use the most appropriate tools to meet each student specific needs. In order to do so, we will consider the student first language, his level of production and comprehension in Portuguese and at last the use of Portuguese for him.


Besides that, our staff will provide the student with highly motivating resources like: books, CDs, video tapes, DVDs, texts, poems, newspapers, magazines and taped TV shows in a modern and communicative approach of the language.


Our methodology is interactive and dynamic. We focus not only daily situations, but also basic grammar theory and relevant aspects of Brazilian culture.


We can offer you 5 kinds of courses:


Regular, Intensive, Just for Spanish speakers, Conversation classes and the Celpe-Bras diploma.


REGULAR COURSES


Our Regular course has three levels: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced.


BASIC LEVEL


When the student completes this first stage, he will reach the Understanding and Production (oral and written), using basic verbal tenses (Present, Past and Future). He will be able to get success in situations of simple communication, and basic context such as talking on the phone, asking for information in airports, hotels, restaurants, etc.


INTERMEDIATE LEVEL


At the end of this stage, the student will have reached a satisfactory level of Understanding and Production (oral and written). He will be able to participate in seminars and to read document, magazines, periodicals, reports and technical texts, in a level of understanding of approximately 70%. He will also have satisfactory fluency, using the basic vocabulary of the language.


ADVANCED LEVEL


The goal of this level is to make the student capable of communicating easily in Portuguese, by using oral or written language, in a secure, easy and quick way. The student will be able to participate in meetings and technical workshops, using several resources that he already has. Our student will also reach a level of perfection in written expression that is enough to allow him to write letters and reports with no difficulty.


INTENSIVE COURSE( SOS)


The main purpose of this course is to offer the foreign students who have recently arrived in Brazil the vocabulary and grammar that they need to obtain oral proficiency in the shortest possible period of time in Portuguese. In a parallel approach the facts of the written language will be equally dealt with.


The student will have daily classes, in a minimum of 10 hours per week, arranged according to his needs and schedule.


JUST FOR SPANISH SPEAKERS


This course is based on modern techniques developed by capable professionals of this area of knowledge. Thus, strategies will be established in order to avoid any kind of misunderstanding caused, mainly, by false cognates and by the use of a mix of Portuguese and Spanish: the similarity between the two languages seems to make comprehension easier at first. However, it is an obstacle for the Spanish speaker to communicate without the interference of his first language because 85% of Portuguese lexicon have cognates in Spanish.


CONVERSATION CLASSES


The goal is to help the student to be able to organize discourse well, playing an effective role among native speakers in such contexts as conferences, lectures and debates on matters of disagreement.
For having a better Oral Comprehension and Production, he listens to songs, watches videos and interviews on TV, trying to express his own opinion about facts of daily life.


The CELPE-Bras DIPLOMA


Our classes prepare for the CELPE-Bras exam (proficiency in Portuguese Language)
The students will be able to use the language with complete flexibility: good pronunciation, large vocabulary, colloquialisms and some cultural references.
